What's a Wat? Luang Prabang Laos

Today we toured 6 of the 35 Buddhist Temples in this area. These temples are known as "Wats". These are very ornate buildings, lots of gold leaf, bordering on "glitz". Most only dated back 50-100 years. Much had been destroyed by weather and war. They were in various states of disrepair, but are still active places of worship. We also proved our superior conditioning, climbing 400+ stairs to view the Wat on top of the mountain.

We also visited a paper and silk artisan workshop. We think Monica may have to buy a new suitcase just for her silk scarves. The quality of the workmanship is very impressive.

Overall our stay here has been tranquil. Not sure if its the place or the fact that we are now entering our 2nd week of travel. Must give some credit to the place, it is lovely.
